Aspen, You Win This One! – by Rebecca Mayer

It’s not often you will hear anyone from Telluride say they want their town to be more like Aspen.  (For any of our international readers, Telluride and Aspen are nearby Colorado ski towns.)

For any of you on the fence, we suggest that Telluride is far superior in many ways.

Except for one!  Convenient, re-usable options for drinking water.  Don’t get us wrong.  Telluride is very eco-friendly.  In fact, at this year’s Mountainfilm picnic, we asked attendees to bring their own plates and cups and cutlery.

Aspen, unfortunately, does us one better.  The city is preparing to spend $20,000 on re-usable water bottles and another $9,400 on municipal water fountains.  All in the name of discouraging bottled water consumption.

But we wouldn’t say there’s a loser in this competition of sorts.  Aspen’s environmental policies really make us all winners.  That’s how we see it.
