Plastic Leaf Bags Banned in Charleston! – by Rebecca Mayer

“Charleston County Council agreed Thursday to prohibit yard waste from arriving at Bees Ferry Landfill in plastic bags, essentially banning the use of plastic leaf bags throughout the county.” – article this week from the           Post and Courier

Essentially, this exciting bag ban in Charleston, South Carolina, diverts biodegradable yard waste from existing in a mummified state in the county landfill.  The county plans to compost these yard cuttings and sell them as mulch and soil amendments.

Encourage your local government to provide a composting area for yard waste in your area!
