Blue Gold – by Rebecca Mayer

I’m not sure how many posts equate to beating a dead horse, but what’s one more in the grand scheme?   There are so many elements to the issue of bottled water.

According to the Mother Nature Network, aside from being a rip-off, a scam and a pollutant, bottled water diverts funds from the municipal systems to which we all have access and that desperately need improvement.

The movie Thirst demonstrates how global privatization of water, blue gold, may be leading to the denial of a basic human right to many communities – access to safe drinking water.

In the last five years, consumption of bottled water in the US has risen 24% and bottled water sales have quadrupled in the last 20 years.  In order to reverse this trend, avoid plastic bottles yourself, but also ask your friends, family and co-workers to do the same.
