Alternative Packaging…by Rebecca Mayer

“Hi, I saw your film at parker school I was the 12 year old kid who asked two many question hahahaha but i was wondering jokingly and seriously what will the disc case for the movie be made out of?” Jamie, 12 years old

Doubtless many people know Bag It has been conducting independent screenings all over the US, and in some international locations, too.  The response has been wonderful – proactive, and positive.  We are so amazed by the number of people eager to change our current consumption and waste-based society.

So Jamie, thanks for your many questions!  Here’s the answer to your most recent one:  The Bag It team searched far and wide for an alternative to plastic packaging for our dvds.  Finally, we discovered a company in the Netherlands, PaperFoam, making an environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic packaging.

PaperFoams’s dvd packaging creates 85-90% less CO2 emissions vs. plastic, as you can see in this diagram below:

Just this month, PaperFoam was approved for European dry food packaging.  As it is 100 % biodegradable and recyclable, we hope that they are setting a trend for packaging manufacturers worldwide.

Keep the questions coming!

Of course cardboard packaging has been around for a long time and is totally recyclable and biodegrable.
