A Chance to Shop! by Rebecca Mayer

The message of Bag It, and this blog, is to consume less, and appreciate what you have more.  I hope this was a transformative holiday season for many Bag It viewers.  It’s amazing what happens when you transfer your focus from consumables and on to the more intangible, and valuable, things in life like relationships and enjoying the outdoors.

That said, here’s a chance to appreciate some guilt-free consumption.  In the last 50 years, production and use of plastic has increased 20 times, from 5 million tons in the 1950s to 100 million tons today.  After-Christmas sales offer a chance to participate in this challenge:  replace a single-use plastic habit in  your home with a reusable item.

Here are some ideas:

1.  Still addicted to ziplocs for snacks and children’s lunches?  Here are some stylish reusable alternatives.  Or try these.

2.  Try these totes made from recycled materials.

3.  Using plastic bags for freezer storage?  Try Tupperware made for the freezer.

4.  Still need produce bags and beverage bottles.  Try the Bag It store.  (This may seem like shameless self-promotion, but I gave these items as gifts to my family.  They are high quality and contribute to the cause of spreading awareness about plastic pollution.)

Enjoy the shopping and let us know how you are eliminating single-use disposables from your home!
