Facing oil spills and plastic pollution, the ocean is in dire need of socially directed change. Billions of us make individual choices each day – what we choose to consume, how we choose to dispose of our consumables, and how we hold other inhabitants of the planet responsible for their choices.
It is a sad fact that few people can walk along a beach, or swim in the ocean, without running into plastic bags and bottles, or oil-spill related issues. Not to mention, as I always seem to mention, the aquatic life that has no control over the changing state of their environment. We have all seen photos of marine animals and birds coated with a suffocating layer of oil off the Gulf of Mexico.
Now, here’s a chance to have a voice. Join Surfrider’s Not the Answer Campaign Tuesday, December 7, and make a stand. The formation of a Regional Citizens’ Advisory Council would help hold BP and other major oil companies accountable.
So that we might be able to enjoy our oceans and ocean life for a long time to come.
